As the temperature rises now that our summer is here in Cambridge.
The BCA Fitness personal trainers believe it’s crucial to pay extra attention to staying hydrated. Proper hydration is essential for maintaining your health and energy levels, especially during warmer weather. Here are 5 tips to ensure you stay well-hydrated.
1. Drink Plenty of Water
The most straightforward way to stay hydrated is to drink plenty of water. Aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day which should help you to achieve 2-2.5 litres, and more if you are active or spending time outdoors. Carry a reusable water bottle with you to make it easy to sip throughout the day.
2. Infuse Your Water
If you find plain water boring, try infusing it with natural flavors. Adding slices of fruits like lemon, lime, berries, or cucumber can make water more enjoyable. Herbal teas and coconut water are also excellent alternatives for keeping hydrated.
3. Eat Hydrating Foods
Incorporate foods with high water content into your diet. Fruits like watermelon, oranges, strawberries, and cucumbers are not only delicious but also help keep you hydrated. Soups and salads are also good options for increasing your fluid intake.
4. Monitor Your Pee
A simple way to check if you’re hydrated is to monitor the color of your pee. Pale yellow or clear urine generally indicates proper hydration, while dark yellow or amber-colored pee suggests you need to drink more fluids.
5. Set Reminders
Sometimes, it’s easy to forget to drink water, especially when you’re busy. Set reminders on your phone, use a hydration app or even buy one off those bottles that has drinking times down the side to prompt you to drink water regularly throughout the day.
